Preparing our students for life in every way!

Pause and imagine your children’s future. They are confident. They know their individual value and potential. They are engaged in building their character and developing skills for achieving their goals. They are supported by a strong community of adults and friends. They are making a difference for the good of others and cultivating a heart for service.

At Saint James School, we believe that education is more than you know. We focus on far more than academics; we build up our students to flourish today and in college. We support each student, knowing him or her as an individual with unique strengths, and we commit to inspiring the growth of the whole child and bringing forth each child’s talents. We know the years your children spend on our campus will become the foundation for their lives.

I still remember first joining our school family 30 years ago when I came to Saint James in elementary school. I frequently think back to my teachers and classmates who made me feel welcomed, encouraged, challenged, and loved. My gratitude for the people of Saint James inspired me to become an educator. My teachers showed me the way to love and serve students and make a difference in children’s lives. They set an example that inspired me to a life of serving and supporting students, helping other young people grow up in the same kind of uplifting and engaging community that Saint James provided me. And, that is our goal for each student we teach and support today.

In our school community, we make each other better. When you choose Saint James School for your child, you are selecting a school that brings our core values of Character, Commitment, Courage, and Community to life in our students. We are intentional in looking for ways we can put good into action and lead by example. From our youngest children in preschool to our soon-to-be graduates, we focus daily on developing strength of character and the courage to live by our values.

Each new day in a child’s life is a new opportunity filled with possibilities. We know your children and build relationships with our students so that we can make the most of every day and every year in their education. We also recognize that children today are facing perhaps more challenges than ever before. That is why our faculty and staff actively lead a culture of safety, respect, and emotional support as our students are becoming ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of the future.

We know choosing a school is the most significant decision you will make for your child and your family. I encourage you to come visit Saint James, meet our students and teachers, experience our welcoming culture, and see first-hand our beautiful collegiate-style campus. Year after year, our graduates go on to college to pursue the aspirations they have developed at Saint James in all areas of college life, from academic honors and pre-professional programs to collegiate athletics, arts, and leadership programs. Year after year, our graduates tell us that Saint James made the difference for their successes in college and in life.

When you become part of our school community, you are joining our Saint James family for life. Our students and teachers are committed and work hard, and we have a lot of fun together, too–celebrating with our students, honoring our traditions, and bringing the Trojan spirit to life.

We would consider it an honor to work with your children and help them grow in this special school family and learning community that has made all the difference in my life. I look forward to meeting your family soon!

We are Saint James School!

About Dr. Larry McLemore

Dr. Larry McLemore is a grateful member of the Saint James School class of 2000. The people of Saint James School prepared Larry to follow their examples and inspired him to do good for others. After his graduation from Saint James, Larry earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Huntingdon College, graduating summa cum laude. In college, Larry served as Student Government Association President, was an intern at The White House, and served as a coach at Saint James. Larry went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Vanderbilt University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in history from Auburn University in 2012.

In 2007, Larry joined the staff of Saint James School as a high school history teacher and coach. Prior to beginning his service as head of school in 2015, Larry served Saint James as dean of student programs and high school counselor, and as the director of advancement, while continuing to teach history. Larry has also taught at the college level.

Larry believes in the importance of serving others, which is why he has been actively involved in the following boards and community organizations: Huntingdon College, Bridge Builders Alabama, Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts, Leadership Montgomery, and the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Circle. He and his family are active members of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, where he teaches Sunday School.

After the life-changing experiences he has had as a Saint James student, alumnus, and faculty member, Larry is proud today to be a Saint James dad to his son, Wilder (Class of 2031), and to his daughter, Daisy (Class of 2036).
