Our Elementary School
At Saint James School, we believe in educating the whole child. We recognize that all students come to us with a variety of talents and strengths, and we actively seek ways to develop those abilities daily through our rigorous, yet appropriate curriculum.
The elementary school curriculum is challenging, while being intellectually and developmentally appropriate. Dedicated, nurturing teachers are committed to providing our students with the finest educational opportunities. Each classroom in the elementary school has access to developmentally appropriate technology which is meaningfully implemented into the curriculum to provide a deeper experience with various skills learned in the classroom.
Our Pre-K2, Pre-K3, and Pre-K4 classes are rooted in a strong foundation of literacy and numeracy skills that students need for success in science, reading, writing, and mathematics. Students in our preschool program are exposed daily to a rich classroom environment filled with opportunities for them to grow in every aspect of their personal, social, emotional, and academic growth.
Helping Your Kids Grow
The Kindergarten year is a time in which children mature at a tremendous rate. At Saint James School, we encourage this growth in independence by providing various experiences to practice and learn new skills. Our Kindergarten reading curriculum provides a balanced approach to teaching phonetic awareness and whole language. Our students continue to master basic mathematical skills while being challenged to develop a deeper understanding of numbers.
Through fifth grade, our elementary students are encouraged daily to extend their learning through the implementation of science, history, and geography into their studies. We place a strong emphasis on the arts and facets of this concept are woven seamlessly into nearly every course of study in the elementary school to peak children’s various interests and to stimulate individual learning styles. Students in third-fifth grades participate in our 1:1 iPad program. We believe strongly in incorporating 21st-century skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity into every aspect of learning in our elementary school.
The mental well-being of students is one of our highest priorities. Our Nationally Certified Counselor will ensure every student has the support they need to succeed. We guide students with interactive, and educational whole-class activities, such as class discussions and bibliotherapy. These activities assist with the development of study techniques, self-assurance, and character growth. The elementary counselor also assists students and their families with academic success, coping mechanisms, and family transitions.
Elementary School Academic Enrichment
Our whole child approach ensures all students have a wide range of resources that can enhance their learning. Saint James School’s teachers have all of the qualifications needed, which ensures every department in the school has state-of-the-art classes. Your children will learn from topics such as art, music, technology, science, and Spanish.
The library offers a key role in the growth of student skills. Books are purposefully selected with many attributes in mind, such as fiction and nonfiction titles, and varying reading levels. With the elementary enrichment program, each class visits the library weekly, creating a fostering environment where students are encouraged to read.
