Safety and Wellness

Safety and Wellness

Ensuring the health and safety of our students is our number one priority at Saint James School.

Children at all ages perform at their best when they feel safe and secure–physically, socially, and emotionally. At Saint James School, our faculty work hand-in-hand with you to make sure your child’s unique needs are met, and in doing so, help your child reach his or her individual potential.

Our focus on the physical, mental, and emotional safety and well-being of our students has long been a focus at Saint James School. These priorities are well represented through the five Whole Child Tenets detailed by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

  • Health
  • Safety
  • Engagement
  • Support
  • Academic Challenge

You have our commitment that every decision we make will continue to be centered around what is best for our students in all aspects of their health and well-being.

Counseling Services

We are grateful to have four dedicated counselors who are ready to help our students with everything from academic challenges to social, emotional and mental health needs. They work closely with teachers and parents to best support our students.

In addition to one-on-one counseling, we have a robust program within each division that provides age-appropriate services and support ranging from in-class lessons and testing to course selection and college counseling.

Athletics and Physical Education

Physical health is essential to the overall well-being of every Saint James School student. In Kindergarten – 8th grade, students engage in daily, age-appropriate physical education and health lessons focused on developing fundamentals, improving motor skills, creating teamwork, and establishing an interest in overall physical health and well-being. Our physical education classes are led by the athletics department and are designed to build character, perseverance, and sportsmanship that can apply to any aspect of life.

A Certified Athletic Trainer is on campus at every athletic practice and competition, and we have quick access to a team of orthopaedic surgeons who work closely with our coaches and student-athletes to prevent injury.

Health Services and Support

Saint James School has a full-time school nurse who supports individual student health needs, oversees administration of prescription medications, and provides emergency support during the school day.

In addition, even as we seek to return to normal during the Covid-19 pandemic, we recognize that we must remain flexible and adaptable based on the ever-changing Covid situation. We have a well-defined plan in place that allows us to conduct school in-person as normally as possible while keeping protocols in place that protect the health of our school community.

Saint James School partners with FLIK Independent School Dining to provide healthy lunch options while empowering our students to make healthy food choices. Each menu is reviewed and approved by a registered dietician to ensure that we offer a wide variety of nutritious choices that meet any dietary need (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc.)
